15 Consolations: Prayers for comfort from the Holy Spirit

In difficult times, we need God to comfort us and remind us of the things He promises and the things that are most important for our souls. Amelia shares 15 ways of asking the Comforter, the Holy Spirit, for help when we feel like we're at our limit of what we can handle.
These things I have spoken unto you, being yet present with you. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
— Jesus, in John 14:25-27

Pray for any of these things in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit …

When I am sorrowful or feeling hopeless, help me to heal. Remind me that I have a purpose for being here, and help me to live for that purpose.

When I feel overwhelmed, help me to make rational decisions. Remind me that You will never give me more than what You know I can handle.

When I am exhausted, help me to receive Your strength. Remind me that there are others who are much more tired, both mentally and physically, than I am.

When I feel restless, lazy, bored, or unsettled, help me to make productive and holy use of my time. Remind me that idleness is sinful, and reveal what I need to be doing so that I can glorify You.

When I am lonely, help me not to pity myself. Remind me that Your companionship, love, and protection are constant.

When loved ones hurt me, help me neither to despair nor be angry with them. Remind me that I, too, make mistakes and that You forgive me. Also remind me that You are the only one who loves selflessly.

When enemies attack, help me not to feel defeated, spiteful, or vengeful. Remind me that no enemy is any match for You, and remind me that revenge belongs to You, not me.

When I feel greedy or envious, help me to desire only those things which are beneficial to my soul. Remind me that spiritual gifts, not material ones, are meaningful in Your kingdom.

When I am anxious, nervous, or worries, help me to be calm. Remind me that You are in control, and allow me to find peace in concentrating on that thought.

When I feel weak or powerless, help me to humble my thoughts. Remind me that we are all helpless without You, and encourage me not to give up in the face of my struggles.

When I am confused, help me to understand the truth. Remind me that I can only trust You and those who serve You.

When my prayers seem like they are not being answered, help me to be patient. Remind me that You know what You are doing and that my job is to trust and follow Your holy will.

When non-spiritual things seem too urgent to me, help me to see clearly. Remind me that any distractions pulling me away from You are poisonous to my soul.

When I lose control, help me to focus and correct my behavior. Remind me that I have responsibilities to You and others and that I am accountable for my actions.

When I am weak and ready to give into temptation, help me to use discretion. Remind me that earthly delights do not endure but that spiritual rewards last forever.

Amen.
